An Education / Business / Community Partnership
California State University at Monterey Bay and University of California Santa Cruz faculties, local middle school teachers and school and college administrators come together to offer this program to local students, plan the curriculum and teach classes.
Pajaro Valley, Aromas, Hollister and Tres Pinos school districts provide important organizational support and transportation, and university professors, teaching assistants and administration provide program support, evaluation and campus tours. Graniterock and other business partners inspire students and their families by demonstrating how good jobs and career opportunities are available to students who acquire the strong foundation in mathematics necessary for advanced education in science and technology.
Algebra Academy classes held at Graniterock Corporate Office and Driscoll’s Corporate Headquarters in Watsonville allow students, who may have never met a scientist, accountant or engineer to experience a business environment, learn about the job and imagine themselves in this type of career.
Community partnership is necessary for continued development.
- Volunteers help coordinate registration and daily student check-in and help with ongoing programs during the school year.
- Financial contributions are needed for the purchase of calculators, notebooks, paper and other supplies for Academy students, for student lunches and snacks, and for faculty and Program Coordinator stipends.
- Your contribution makes a difference, and any amount helps. A gift of $825 will fund one student’s Algebra Academy and Math Club programs for the entire school year.
The Algebra Academy program is made possible through the sponsorship of Graniterock and the Woolpert Family Foundation. In addition, hundreds of businesses and individuals have helped with donations in memory of Bruce W. Woolpert, for which Graniterock
and the Woolpert family are very grateful.
